St Andrew’s Anglican Church

Parish of Lutwyche

Lychgate

The front of our church is dominated by an historic Lychgate, where, in former times, the bodies of parishioners awaiting funeral services were rested prior to the service.

The Lychgate is dedicated to

Those of the Parish of Lutwyche who gave their lives for the Empire in the Great War 1914 - 1918

On 28th June 2009, we received a visit from The Most Reverend Dr. Jonathon Holland, Bishop of the Northern Region. He was the Preacher and Celebrant at a well-attended 8:30 service.

After preaching at the service we processed to the Lychgate where the Bishop proceeded to re-dedicate the newly restored Lychgate.

The Parish is again indebted to Stuart Blakey from Rockwood Renovations for his skills as an artisan and as a supporter of St Andrews. The restoration work is magnificent.

The Lychgate was designed in 1924 by Francis Joseph Mayer, and was restored in 2009 by the generous gift of Ralph and Dianne Mayer in memory of Dianne’s brother, John Richard James.
